Edinburgh and London are family-friendly cities
The romantic city of Florence in Italy has been crowned the most family-friendly city in the first-ever TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Family awards.
In a boost for UK tourism, Edinburgh and London were named the second and third most family-friendly cities in Europe respectively.
These awards recognise the most family-friendly cities as decided by TripAdvisor travellers, Emma O’Boyle, a TripAdvisor spokesperson, said.
A recent Tripadvisor survey revealed 53 per cent of families intend to spend less on holidays this, so the news that London and Edinburgh are rated as family-friendly by travellers is a welcome boost.
The TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Family award winners were based on the greatest number of recommendations from reviewers who travelled with family. Top family-rated hotels were determined by the highest review ratings from those who travelled with family.
One TripAdvisor traveller said Edinburgh is a wonderful place to visit with children, its famous Edinburgh Castle, free museums and frequent festivals all cater for families.
While London has overcome the perception that it’s too expensive for families. With many attractions free of charge, including the British Museum, the Imperial War Museum, Tate Britain and Tate Modern, London is both affordable and child-friendly.
Ms O’Boyle said: “For Edinburgh and London to beat other well-known European family-friendly destinations proves that Britain truly is a fantastic place for a family holiday."
