Short haul destinations rise in popularity
A flight comparison site has revealed where Brits are heading on their summer holidays this year, and while Spain remains the most popular destination, UK holidaymakers are branching out with the Balkans rising in popularity this year.
The highest new entry in the list is Kosovo which moved into the top 100 at number 67 and interest in the Balkans is increasing as Brits look to get off the beaten track. Macedonia entered the top 100 at 95, and Bosnia and Herzegovina also squeezed into the top 100.
With a range of city breaks, stunning coastlines and mountainous retreats, the Balkan region is one which will continue to appeal to UK holidaymakers looking for somewhere different and offering good value for money.
The third most popular summer destination is Italy which has moved up two places compared to last, displacing both Turkey and France.
Greece is an attractive option for UK holidaymakers, moving up two places, as Brits look for value for money.
The USA retains its number two position, showing that Brits are still willing to spend money on long haul flights despite the tough economic times.
