Lovebox Weekender
There's no shortage of events to choose from, but one of the best is Lovebox Weekender, which has now been running for ten years. Taking place in Victoria Park, it starts on Friday June 15th and ends on Sunday 17th, mixing electronic performances, rap, pop and cutting-edge urban producers.
The acts set to perform across Lovebox's ten stages include Hot Chip, Lana del Rey and Crystal Castles, to name but a few. Stay in a Soho hotel and you can enjoy all the excitement of the festival, as well as the unique attractions of this exciting and vibrant London district.
Apple Cart Festival
If you're looking for something a little shorter, but still lots of fun, Apple Cart Festival is ideal. Boasting a laidback, friendly atmosphere, it will be held on June 3rd in Victoria Park and is the perfect choice if you're searching for an eclectic day out. As well as having three music stages, there will be a comedy stage, real ale tent, village games, magic acts, cabaret and even car boot sales. Doors open at 11:00 and close at 22:30.
Hackney Weekend
Hosted by Radio 1, this is part of the London 2012 Festival and is set to be one of the biggest music events in east London this year - as well as the radio station's largest free ticketed event. Its six stages will be positioned at Hackney Marshes, with acts including Florence and the Machine, Plan B and Jack White among those slated to perform. The festival will take place on June 23rd and 24th.
Damon Albarn's Dr Dee
Of course, festivals are not the only kind of music event being held in the capital this summer. If you're simply looking for some evening entertainment during your getaway, Damon Albarn's Dr Dee is a great choice. Written by the Blur and Gorillaz frontman, the show tells the story of Dr Dee - a scientist, mathematician, political adviser and magician who lived during the reign of Elizabeth I.
Mixing contemporary opera and acoustic pop, it promises to be an exciting performance for any music lover. It will run from June 25th to July 27th at the London Coliseum.
Simon Bolivar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela
Also part of the London 2012 Festival, the Simon Bolivar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela will take to the stage at the Southbank Centre between June 23rd and 26th. Known for its lively performances, the orchestra will be putting on a variety of shows, including a family concert and two acts with Gustavo Dudamel.
