How to have the perfect romantic break in Bath
Bath is a beautiful city in which to have a romantic break, with its stunning architecture, breathtaking landscapes and gorgeous cuisine. If you are planning a getaway for two, read our guide to find out how to have a romantic holiday in Bath you will not forget.
The first thing to organise is your accommodation; hiring a cottage in Bath is the ideal way to create a cosy, intimate atmosphere. Indeed, this will feel like a home away from home you can really relax in and make your own.
The next step is planning what you will actually do during your stay. One of the best things about visiting Bath is the variety it offers - everything from evenings at the theatre to long walks in the countryside is possible, meaning you and your partner can find something that really suits you.
To start your day off with a little romance, you could visit the Prior Park Landscape Garden - one of the city's most wonderful hidden gems. As well as offering excellent views over Bath itself, it is also home to some impressive architecture. Indeed, its Palladian bridge is one of only four of its kind in the world.
If you have time, it is well worth walking the Bath Skyline trail that begins here. A 6-mile path, this circular route will lead to some fantastic sights, including charming 18th-century follies and woodlands.
After your walk, you can head back into the city centre for a spot of lunch. Bath is home to some truly excellent pubs and restaurants, such as the Chequers - a gastro pub with a long history. Downstairs provides a more casual dining experience, while you can go to the first floor to visit Upstairs at the Chequers - a restaurant that provides a more intimate dining experience.
Once you have indulged your taste buds, you can pamper your body at one of Bath's spas. Of course, the city has a long spa history, which you can learn about at the Roman Baths, built around Britain's only natural hot spring.
To enjoy a treatment or two, take a trip to somewhere like Thermae Bath Spa, where you can luxuriate in the warm water. There is even an open-air rooftop pool that has great views across the city! For a real sense of romance, consider the Twilight for Two package, which includes a three-hour spa session in the late afternoon to evening, before a one-course meal in the onsite restaurant.
