Holiday on the Isle of Fernando's

Thursday, 31 March 2011 11:20 AM

What would your ideal short destination be? The Isle of Fernando’s? If it is you are in good company as a leading independent travel agent has revealed the fantasy island is one of its top searches.

Sunshine.co.uk has revealed the top-ten funniest search terms entered into its holiday search engine by members of the public. The fictional island of Fernando’s, made famous by ITV’s hit dating show ‘Take Me Out’, is actually Tenerife in the real world - but apparently some of us have missed the joke, as it came second in the list of funny holiday searches.

Top of the pile was an alien world called Pandora - the setting for the blockbuster movie Avatar.

While sunshine.co.uk usually receives more normal searches from Brits looking to holiday in Majorca or Turkey, they have continued to uncover some bizarre requests.

The lost city of Atlantis is the third funniest on the list, followed by Emmerdale and Neverland. Movies and TV shows feature prominently -  Middle Earth, The Island on ‘Lost’, and Narboo all make the top ten.

Chris Brown, co-founder of sunshine.co.uk, says most of the searches they receive are for normal holidays, like trips to Florida or France. Sometimes the teams spot a few ‘rogue searches and they are more common than people think.

He said: “But it’s easy to see why some people look for holidays to the Isle of Fernando’s, especially if they think that’s the actual name for the destination. Other searches, like ‘Mars’ and ‘Naboo,’ are slightly more amusing.”
