Emirates to launch new St Petersburg link

Monday, 13 June 2011 10:25 AM

Emirates airline is to extend its service by offering flights deeper into Russia.

From November 1, passengers will be able to fly from Dubai to the Baltic port city of St Petersburg.

The destination - often referred to as Russia’s ‘Northern Capital’ - will become the most northerly point on the airline’s network.

A combination of Airbus A340-300 and A330-200 will be deployed on the daily route offering first, business and economy class travel.

The flight will depart Dubai at 10.35am to arrive in St Petersburg at 16.15pm. The return flight departs at 17.45pm, landing in Dubai at 00.35am.

Chairman and Chief Executive of the Emirates Airline and Group, His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, said: “We see great potential in Russia and the success of our Moscow flights has demonstrated that there is still demand from this market.

“We have been considering launching a non-stop service to St Petersburg for some time and we believe that the conditions are now right to do so. This is a city which attracts many tourists and cruise visitors every year because of its grand architecture, arts and culture and fascinating history.”

Passenger demand is expected to be mostly tourist driven but boosted by oil and manufacturing sectors.
