Tuesday, 16 November 2010 11:50 AM

If you prefer the intimate charm of Valentine’s Day to the mass market commercial appeal of Christmas, then you may be planning your mid-February couple’s break already. In that case, this Swiss break may be just the ticket.

Upon arrival in Zurich, you will be whisked up the mountainside by train to Pontresina, your mountain hideaway, which is 1,800m above sea level. This scenic journey passes historic villages, lakes and gorges before arriving at your destination.

A chauffeur-driven car will meet you at the rail station to take you to your lodgings at the Grand Hotel Kronenhof, a 19th century Baroque-style building, where you can toast your romantic weekend with a champagne reception.

Guests can enjoy a ride in a horse-drawn carriage, while snow-walking, tobogganing and skiing is on offer for more active couples. Other attractions include traditional Swiss fondue, a two-hour massage and various spa treatments.

The three-night Valentine’s package at the Grand Hotel Kronenhof costs CHF 1,220 (£771) per person, including half-board accommodation, airport transfers and all spa treatments.
