The Yorkshire Dales are the ideal place for a cottage break

If you are hoping to go on a relaxing weekend getaway, there is perhaps nowhere quite like the Yorkshire Dales. Book a cottage break in this part of the country and in next to no time you'll be able to enjoy a wonderful holiday and get away from it all.

Spanning parts of North Yorkshire and Cumbria, the Dales have some of the most beautiful scenery in the whole of the UK, so upon settling into your luxury holiday home you can be sure that you will be based in some stunning surroundings.

The landscape here is extremely diverse, so depending on where you go and what you do, there's the chance to see lush green fields, dramatic limestone cliffs and sprawling moorland.

Wherever you end up, you can be confident of seeing amazing sights, particularly when you consider the fact that the Dales are home to three designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty - the Yorkshire Dales National Park, the Forest of Bowland and Nidderdale - so make sure you pack your camera!

By booking Dales holiday cottages in picturesque towns and villages - such as Eldroth and Skipton - you'll be well-placed to enjoy the great outdoors and one fantastic way for you to do this during your short break is by going on a walk.

A wide range of trails can be found in the Dales, so there will be something suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels. If you're looking for a real challenge, you may be interested to note that two of the UK's most famous trekking routes - the 270-mile Pennine Way and 190-mile Coast to Coast path - pass through the region, so walking along part of either of these is sure to be a great activity.

However, there is plenty more to do during your short break - including fishing and cycling - and following a day of exciting adventures you can return to your luxury cottage to relax in the evening.

If you're after a slightly less active getaway, why not visit Hebblethwaite Hall Wood? This ancient woodland not only contains a wide variety of flora, but is also populated by red squirrels.

During your short break in the region you should also visit the Dales Countryside Museum. Housed in a converted railway station in Hawes, this cultural institution looks at the local people and landscape of the Dales both in the past and present, across themes such as transport, farming and education.

With so many amazing things to see and do, a few days spent in a holiday cottage in the Yorkshire Dales is sure to be an experience you will never forget.
