Los Cristianos: a terrific Tenerife holiday spot

Thursday, 9 February 2012 10:15 AM

If you're planning a short Spanish holiday, consider jetting off to Los Cristianos. Situated on Tenerife's south coast, it is the ideal location for couples keen to spend some quality time together while enjoying a little sun, sand and sea.

With plenty of luxurious Los Cristianos hotels to choose from, you're sure to find the perfect spot for unwinding in each other's company. Many establishments here are situated close to the beach, so you won't have far to go to enjoy the town's beautiful coastline.

So, just what can you expect from Los Cristianos?

General ambience

Once upon a time, Los Cristianos was a small, quiet fishing village. Recent decades have seen it transformed into a bustling tourist resort - but one that still manages to offer a relaxing atmosphere.

It is located just 3 km from Playa de las Americas, a fast-paced, lively destination that boasts an exciting nightlife. Los Cristianos tends to be quieter than this tourist favourite - something that can make it all the more suited to spending some quality time together.

Restaurants and nightlife

While the town may offer a little less than Playa de las Americas in terms of nightlife, don't make the mistake of thinking there is no nightlife at all.

Providing numerous bars, the resort is also home to several clubs, such as those on the Centro Comercial San Telmo, which is a shopping centre by day.

In terms of restaurants, you'll find a huge selection to choose from. Everything from casual cafes for breakfast and lunch to beautiful dinner venues are available, which means you're likely to discover the ideal spot for quick bites, romantic evenings and just about everything in between.

Beaches and water sports

Of course, one of the main attractions of Tenerife is its beaches, and this is certainly the case in Los Cristianos.

This small town has two great stretches of sand, with one being very close to the centre of the resort and another a mere stone's throw away.

The beaches here really are beautiful, and you may well be content to do little more than lie back and soak up the sun - or perhaps take a dip in the ocean.

However, there is plenty more on offer if you're eager to get active. A number of companies offer the chance to hire various water sports gear - and some even provide tuition - so you could be getting to grips with an activity like surfing in next to no time.

Or, you might prefer a boat trip. Whales and dolphins can be spotted in the local waters, and you can join an excursion to watch for them, or take part in a fishing trip.

What else can you do?

The town plays host to a pretty promenade, so it's well worth taking a gentle stroll along it to admire the coastline.

However, if you're keen to explore further inland, there are a number of other places you can visit. For example, animal lovers may be eager to head to Jungle Park, where they can see creatures like hippos, eagles and crocodiles.

Keen golfers, meanwhile, will discover there are numerous courses within reach of Los Cristianos, such as Los Palos Centro de Golf. The fantastic local weather means golf is a sport that can be enjoyed all year round, so you don't need to plan your dates too carefully if you're keen to spend some time working on your golfing skills.
