Our top picks for a half-term touring caravan holiday in the UK
The UK is home to a number of beautiful countryside locations that will make for enjoyable caravan trips for the entire family. If you're looking for somewhere to head to during the half-term, where are the top destinations to visit for a memorable getaway?
You are sure to find a wealth of picturesque places when you begin your search, but picking somewhere to go during the wintertime means trying to find a location that offers plenty to do inside as well as outdoors.
After signing up to caravan insurance and making sure you have all the documents you need, you might like to take your family to one of these three places.
Lake District
Located in Cumbria, the Lake District National Park is the largest in England at 2,292 sq km. It is also home to the tallest mountain in the nation, with Scafell Pike reaching 978 m tall and the deepest lake (Wastwater) at 74 m.
Due to its beautiful natural landscape, you will not be short of places to explore in the outdoors, but on colder days there are also a number of attractions to see.
For instance, the Ravenglass Roman Bathhouse in the western part of the Lake District is one of the best preserved ancient bathing sites in the UK.
You can take a look at the 4 m high ruins, which reveal old plumbing systems and what life was like for the Romans during the 300-year period they occupied this space.
If the weather does hold up, why not spend a day by Windermere? As it is the largest expanse of water in England, you can simply sit beside the lake and soak up the beautiful views. Or you can go on a bike ride around the perimeter, explore local nearby villages or let your kids enjoy spending time at the adventure playground at Brockhole - The Lake District Visitor Centre, which is situated beside the lake.
Cornwall
Cornwall is a popular choice for caravanning holidays during the summertime, due to having the longest coastline in the UK at 697 km and more than 300 beaches where kids can take part in water sports or have fun splashing around in the sea.
However, it is also a great place to visit during the colder months when the crowds are smaller and you can see a different side of the county.
Head to the Eden Project one day and walk around some of the many tropical greenhouses that house exotic flowers from around the world. There are more than 30 football pitches' worth of gardens here, so your kids are sure to stay busy all day long!
Although perhaps most famous for being one of Britain's top surfing destinations, Newquay is also known for its zoo. Take your children on a trip to Newquay Zoo and you'll get to see more than 130 species up close, including lions, monkeys and snakes.
Wales
Wales is another popular destination you might consider, with the country being home to a vast number of different attractions to visit, whatever the weather.
If you have active children who want to spend some time outdoors, you could head to one of the country's many beaches. Weather permitting, they could have a go at surfing or simply go for a splash in the water or they may prefer to try horse-riding on the sand, which is sure to be an experience they will treasure.
Among the other days out you can enjoy while in Wales - and perfect for a rainy day - is a visit to Anglesey Sea Zoo, where you can see a huge array of different water creatures.
Or, you and your kids might prefer to go on a steam train journey on the Vale of Rheidol Railway from Aberystwyth to Devils Bridge.
There are so many attractions to see and interesting places to explore in the UK that you're sure to want to spend every half-term taking your caravan to different destinations to discover more locations you've not been to before.
